OpenERP is a free software. OpenERP and all its modules are released under the open source AGPL licence. You can download and use it freely without any restrictions, with an unlimited number of users.
The apps platform of OpenERP offer maintenance services to help companies running OpenERP without problems, directly accessible through the "Settings/Modules" menu:
The apps platform is not free, it costs $39/user per month for all these services. This source of revenue helps developing OpenERP to make it better versions after versions.
As OpenERP is open source, these services are optional. You can still install modules yourself (manually downloading from launchpad), update your instance to apply security fixes, fix issues you encounter or upgrade versions (which is much more complex).
In these services, the installation of new apps is free if you have less than 3 users. If you have more than 3 users, you have to do it manually or subscribe to the OpenERP Enterprise service.
If you installed the Linux sources, the 240 official modules are installed by default. So, OpenERP does not require to access the Apps platform for official modules. (it is required to install community modules). The windows auto-installer has the minimum number of modules required installed by default. Others modules are installed on demand.
We say that OpenERP is free because you are free to:
The details of all OpenERP Enterprise services are described here: http://openerp.com/pricing
I am interested on manual installation of additional modules, application of security fixes, upgrade versions, etc. Where can I find instructions for these methods?
That is not a correct solution i am not here installing a new module i am just changing the general settings but when i try to click on apply it redirect to a https;//account.openerp.com for sign in with openerp user this is case in openerp all in one but if u try with linux source it is not giving this issues.
Is that in the free version the access to database is not available. If so how to get the access to database for the free version users?
Do they want to pay for database access how much it costs them ?
can anyone or the Odoo team please answer it ?
Thanks in advance
I also get the message (An OpenERP Enterprise subscription is required for one-click installation of OpenERP Apps for more than 3 users) when i install the app, what i have to do for install free apps. I installed OpenERP v7.0 all-in-one for windows please guide me.
use Settings -> Modules -> Installed Modules and remove the filter "installed" in search field in order to see all modules

The reason is because some settings make trigger the installation of other modules....
It's a free-software so I've installed and try openERP v7 by myself and I created and used more than 3 users.
but you can buy for a version with hosting and maintenance.
Where have you find your version of openERP?
in the website openerp.
Can you give me the link?
I get an answer in the french forum. openerp is free but the migration is not.
Thanks for all the answers
