Hi Everyone,

I am quite new to OE and am not familiar with the workings yet and I apologize if this has been covered yet, but I cannot find detailed information it in the knowledge base.

I am trying to use product-variants-multi but cannot figure out where to enter the template details. Under the product, the option for Is Multi Variant is greyed out and non-selectable.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

First , check users rights :

  • Go to Configuration -> Users -> Click the user

  • Click Edit button

  • Click Access rights

  • Check Products variants

    .

Now, creating a Template (this is a basic process) :

1. You have to create Variant Dimension Type :

  • Go to : Sales -> Configuration -> Products -> Variant Dimensions -> Dimension Types

  • Create one Dimension Type ( Say : Color)

2. You have to create Options for this dimension type :

  • Go to : Sales -> Configuration -> Products -> Variant Dimensions -> Dimension Options

  • Create new one + Click Dimension Type field and select "Color" + Enter Dimension Option Name : "green"

  • Repeat last step and create 3 or 4 colors.

4. Now we create a Product Template :

  • Go to : Sales -> Configuration -> Products -> Product Templates

  • Create a new Product Template, set its name and check the case "variant multiple" + click the tab "Variants"

  • In the first field (Dimension Type Name) , click "Add" and select the type we created earlier : "Color"

  • Then in next field click "Add all option" : alls colors should be listed now.

  • Scroll down and click "Generate/Update variants" : Now Products should be listed in lower field.

  • Save the Template by clicking the red button on top of the page.

Now you created some produtcs from this Template we created.

5. Now verify that product are created :

  • Go to : Sales -> products

Product should be listed here

Regards

Excellent answer. Now how do I manufacture these variants? It seems that the bom_variant_multi is dead. Is there some other way to get a BOM for each variant? Each Dimension Option should have the possibility to associate some specific portion of a BOM, no?

In fact, as far as I have understood, you have to create a new BOM, then add existing products to this BOM. And you can make a new BOM that may contain other BOMs.

When you create a new BOM, and add existing products, you have to choose amongst products made with different variants. I don't think you can make a BOM with variants (like for products).

See variant_multi as a simple way to make products quickly.

Excellent answer.

This might be a late answer but it might help someone. I think you need to look at the "Properties" option. Under Settings, Manufacturing, enable this: Allow several bill of materials per product using properties. Then go to Manufacturing module, under configuration, create Properties. Now for each property, you can define a different set of BOM. In Sales Order, when you add an item, you have the option to specify the property. OpenERP then matches the property in the sales order line with the BOM for that same property. I hope that helps.
