I must have done something different in this install, I've ended up with a US chart of accounts, as my install language was US.

How can I change for a FR COA?

The question is misleading, it should be more something like How can I replace installed chart of accounts?

Author

Well I think it was at one point the original question, but the conclusion was that a chart of accounts cannot be replaced but created or modified. However, it is true that at the outset, a chart of accounts is present.

The solution is to drop the database. On creating the new database, install France Accounting first (search for module 10n_fr or France Accounting in Settings > Modules >Apps), before anything else, and then create your accounting based on the France Accounting model.

I am reading comments going both ways on this subject. It is a HUGE amount of work to drop and rebuild a database (I just spent a day on it till 2:00 AM). I have been parsing commnets here and it does seem that the Charts can be rebuilt at least. It would be ideal if the template and chart could simply be cleared and started afresh (at least if no entries have been made). If they have been made the migration from one chart to another should also be workable.

For me it was very quick, I had nothing but test data in the database.

The Database is quick. What is slow is posting in Many Hundred Partners, Classifying them, Importing Product Categories, Importing Many Hundred Products, Rebuilding a custom Chart.

According to this very recent post in the old forum you will not be able to do it.

Chart of accounts changeable once configured?

To add natural languages to allow users to work in their own language use :

Settings >> Translations >> Load a Translation

To load the accounting you want try typing "France - Accounting" into the search window of (first remove the filter object "Featured") :

Settings >> Apps

In order to create a chart of accounts from a template, you need to return the Accounting configuration Wizard to its "dirty" state. Open up ...

Settings >> Technical >> Configuration Wizards

. . . and click the little "ToDo" icon (right hand column) for items 3 "Configure Accounting Data", 10 "Set Your Accounting Options", & 100 "Open Accounting Menu". They will switch to "Launch" icons. "Launching" item 3 will lead you automatically through 3, 10 & 100. During that sequence you will be able to select your newly defined template as the basis for your new chart of accounts.

Well I must have missed something because I created a new database and when installing accounting I did not get the choice of country for chart of accounts model as was the case in a previous version. I chose language EN but not country FR. Any solution to installing a french chart of accounts. thanks

Hopefully my edited answer above clarifies your two recent comments.

Hello, this enabled me to import the FR chart of accounts template. How though can I create a COA based on that template? I don't see it. Thanks

Have you enabled "Technical Features" for your Administrative user?

Author

Indeed, yes. Its in the mechanics of how to create a chart of accounts from the installed French template. When I display the COA template, the create button is to create another template. I want to create a chart of accounts from the template. Do I have to export the template and import as a chart of accounts or can I somewhere click 'create chart from this template'?

As before, I have altered my answer to clarify making a chart from a template.

Martin, thanks again. Doing that I come up against a further problem, the configuration wizard fails as it wants to want to create journals which already exist and I cannot delete existing journals, even after deleting accounts, taxes, fiscal positions, fiscal years, periods and templates

Have you got past this? I have not been able to duplicate the problem you are seeing.

Author

Yes I have, thanks indeed. I thought perhaps a new question was required so I started one here to follow up. http://help.openerp.com/question/3569/configuration-wizard-fails/

So you could mark the original question as answered?

Author

That's done, thanks, the solution was to drop the database and recreate installing first the france accounting module

According to http://doc.openerp.com/v6.0/book/3/3_9/chart_of_accounts.html (this post) for v6 I can install the module l10n_fr. Can't see how to do that on v7
